MATCH: BUL FC Vs MYDA FC

LEAGUE: Uganda Premier League

DATE: Friday February 26, 2021

VENUE: Kyabazinga Stadium – Bugembe @4pm

BUL Football Club – Jinja host MYDA on Friday afternoon looking to end their three-match winless streak in the Uganda Premier League.

Both sides fell to defeat in the previous round of matches, with Arthur Kyesimira’s side coming up short at Vipers SC while MYDA FC were put to the sword in their own backyard by Express.

Ranking 13th on the UPL table with seven points, 14 points behind pacesetters Vipers SC, and with 21 games remaining to end the season, BUL can realistically still challenge and achieve a top four spot. Why not?

Therefore, the soccer giants from Jinja City still have ambitions to end the season on a high and will be determined to rekindle their season on Friday with a comfortable victory over the UPL newcomers from Tororo whom they are meeting for the first time in the league.

MYDA have endured a shoddier run of their own, collecting just one point from nine matches and suffering four defeats in succession on the road. They are glued in 16th place on the UPL sixteen team log.

Team News

Forward Deogracious Ojok will be subjected to a late fitness test but mid fielders: Abdul Malik Vitalis Tabu, Joseph Ssemujju and right back Peter Onzima are still out with injuries.

Kenneth Ssemakula will again be not available for selection. The youngster is away on national duty with Uganda Hippos in Mauritania for AFCON finals

Assistant Coach Daniel Mubiru said that the team will be out on Friday for nothing short of three points.

“We are most likely to win tomorrow’s game against MYDA. We respect them because they are also struggling and need the three points but we have had better preparations,” the coach noted

Despite sitting in the bottom half of the table, the coach is hopeful that BUL FC can still ascend to the top.

“We are optimistic we can still catch up with teams in the top pack because we have rectified the issues that we have had before.”

BUL FC slipped to a 1-0 defeat on the road against Uganda Premier League table leaders Vipers SC.

A late goal from Yunus Ssentamu in the second half was enough for the Venoms to secure their victory at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday.

The result means that BUL suffered their sixth defeat in the league and three in a row on the road.

The Jinja City soccer giants put in a spirited display to battle through rain for the entire opening half and the boys produced the best football the soccer fans will ever see for the rest of the season.

BUL FC technical team

Definitely, BUL had the better of the exchanges, but, despite the total dominance though, it wasn’t translated into goals as the lads left their scoring boots at home and Vipers would have thanked their keeper for a couple of good saves too to keep the game level at halftime.

Although the Venoms would argue that they had most of the ball in the second half when the Edible Oil Manufacturers were battling coldness, the effort and dedication displayed by every player in a white shirt simply must be commended. The back three were defending like Trojans and, when we got our running game going, they simply had no answers for us

The amount of work and desire displayed in such adverse weather conditions was sometimes hard to believe considering the lack of enough time between games

It wasn’t to be our day in the end however as Yunus Ssentamu’s header drilled the ball into the net with four minutes left on the clock. But that aside, there were hips of positives to take for BUL FC going forward and, with the return of some key players from injuries, the lads will surely get back to winning ways in no time.

The team is now in 13th position on the sixteen team log with 7 points from 9 games. Their next outing will be against the winless and UPL rookies – MYDA FC on Friday February 26 at Kyabazinga Stadium – Bugembe in Jinja City

BUL FC Starting XI Against Vipers

Abdul Kimera, Aggrey Madoi, Fredrick Kigozi, Ramadan Dudu (Jimmy Kulaba), Walter Ochora, Godfrey Akol, Elvis Kibaale, Robert Mukongotya, Richard Wandyaka (Simon Peter), Musa Esenu (Martin Aprem), Anwar Ntege

Substitutes: Sanon Mulabi (GK), Jimmy Kulaba, Martin Aprem, Fredson Gwoto, Hamis Tibita, Simon Peter Oketch, Ibrahim Mugulusi

BUL FC will be eyeing victory in their crucial Uganda Premier League match against Vipers SC that will be played at St. Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday February 23 at 4PM

The Jinja City side are lying at the 13th place on the sixteen-team log with seven points after managing two wins and a draw from seven games so far, but, they hope to reboot their Uganda Premier League campaign by returning to winning ways against the Venoms that top the chart with 18 points.

Tuesday’s opponents are yet to lose a game this season and have won all their four games in their own backyard. BUL FC, since they gained promotion to the topflight league in 2011, has only won once, drawn on one occasion and lost seven times in their last nine visits to Vipers and has lost their last three away games this season.

However, the Edible Oil Manufacturers will this time not afford to give the Venoms even an inch and will be aiming to turn tables, disrupt the status quo and clobber their hosts in Kitende.

TEAM NEWS

Midfielder Abdul Malik Vitalis Tabu has not yet recovered from the toe injury, Right back – Peter Onzima is still nursing the groin injury and striker –  Deogracious Ojok will also miss the Tuesday trip with a knock.

Joseph Ssemujju will not be risked in this tie and Kenneth Ssemakula also continues to miss out as for he is on national duty with Uganda U-20 team in Mauritania for AFCON finals

“We are ready to travel tomorrow to Vipers, St Mary’s Kitende. We are playing a team that is on top of the table, we are not having a good run – they’re having a good run especially at home but we know they are not invincible. we have prepared well and we hope to get points there tomorrow.” Said head coach Arthur Kyesimira

BUL FC will be looking to make it back-to-back home wins in the Uganda Premier League for the first time this season when they welcome Express FC to Kyabazinga stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Edible Oil Manufacturers won 2-1 against KCCA in their last home game but will enter this contest off the back of a 2-0 away defeat at Police on Tuesday. However, they will be boosted by their better home record against the visitors having emerged victors on four occasions from their last five ties at home.

The Jinja City soccer giants sit in 12th position with seven points and just four points off the red line. So there are much reasons to fight on.

Express FC are currently 4th on the sixteen team log, collecting 13 points from their seven matches courtesy of three wins and four draws, while they have not yet suffered a defeat this season, a feat shared by only Vipers and Wakiso Giants.

Team News:

BUL will again be without the services of Peter Onzima, Abdul Malik Vitalis Tabu and Deogracious Ojok for Saturday’s encounter. The trio miss out with groin and toe injuries, and a knock respectively.

Influential wide man Joseph Ssemujju is doubtful while Kenneth Ssemakula will completely not be available for selection as he is on national duty with Uganda Hippos in Mauritania for AFCON finals.

Meanwhile, the team will welcome back danger man Robert Mukongotya from suspension having missed the Police FC game. Richard Wandyaka and Captain Fredson Gwoto have gained full match fitness and will vie for starting spots against Express.

Head coach Arthur Kyesimira warned his combatants against complacency and tasked them to put up a spirited fight despite having a good home record against their opponents.

“We have a very good home record against Express yes, but it will not count for anything tomorrow if we don’t put in maximum efforts. History will not count but all that will, is our strong efforts on the pitch,” Kyesimira noted.

Vice-captain Walter Ochora acknowledged the importance of tomorrow’s game and promised that the players will give their all to get the maximum points.

“We are going to get a good result and I promise we shall win tomorrow’s game.”

BUL FC will be hoping to continue their impressive record against Police FC when they travel to Lugogo on Tuesday afternoon.

The Jinja City based soccer giants have won their last five duels against the cops with three of them coming on the road.

Police head into this contest on the back of four victories from six matches, the latest coming against Kyetume FC.

Meanwhile, BUL FC have won only one game away from home this season against  Busoga United 1-3 BUL FC, lost two on the run against UPDF FC (2-1) and Kyetume (1-0) and remained 12th on UPL table rankings despite of their 2-1 home sweet win over KCCA on Friday, while the peace keepers are currently in second position.

Goals from Musa ‘Simba’ Esenu and Robert Mukongotya earned them that latest victory, and the most impressive.

However, Charles Lwanga’s late consolation goal at Kyabazinga Stadium means that Arthur Kyesimira charges have not kept a clean sheet yet this season.

At the other end of the pitch, the Lugogo side are the third highest scorers with 14 goals so far and have the best defence in the league, having conceded only 3 times in six games.

It could be a vital week ahead for BUL, as after visiting Police they face Express and Vipers in the next fixtures.

Head Coach – Arthur Kyesimira said his team is aiming at shooting down Police at their own backyard despite having injuries in his camp.

“We have a few injuries but the rest of the team is in good shape. We have prepared well and expect nothing short of three points from tomorrow’s game.”

Club captain – Fredson Gwoto expressed the team’s readiness to win against their opponents and re echoed the coach’s remarks.

“Coaches have prepared us very well. We are ready for Police and we promise to come back with a comfortable victory.”

UGANDA PREMIER LEAGUE: BUL FC CONTINUE TO TROUBLE KCCA IN JINJA

BUL players celebrate their second goal

  • Esenu and Mukongotya on target to earn BUL first win at home this season
  • Head coach Arthur Kyesimira took first charge of the team this season
  • This is the second successive home victory for BUL FC against KCCA at home

BUL football club, the face of football in Eastern Uganda, scored in either halves to defeat KCCA FC 2-1 at Kyabazinga Stadium, Bugembe – Jinja City in a breathless Uganda Premier League encounter on Friday February 12, 2021.

Striker Musa ’Simba’ Esenu and Robert Mukongotya scored the two goals in 32′ and 47′ minutes respectively and the visitors got their consolation through Charles Lwanga with two minutes left to wind up the game.

The sweet win is BUL FC’s first at home having drawn 2-2 with SC Villa in their league opener this season and takes them to seven points after six outings.

Being the first game the head coach Arthur Kyesimira was in charge this season, the team was desperate for a win and intention to press their opponents aggressively was clear from the opening seconds.

The Eastern Giants intentionally and unrelentingly threw every sort of effort at KCCA and carved out the game’s first meaningful chances in the first period.

But, Musa Esenu screwed his strike to the left with Charles Lukwago at his mercy inside six minutes, rejected another clear chance with a weak header a few moments later and was flagged offside at the quarter hour after Ibrahim Mugulusi superbly executed a trademark line breaking pass.

Robert Mukongotya, twisted and turned away from Kalanzi before whipping in a devilish delivery towards Ssemujju but the lad missed the sitter in the 28th minute.

Esenu would make amends later and break the deadlock two minutes after half hour mark with a well-timed header off a Ssemujju master class cross with the visitors getting a huge opportunity to level matters before the break but their attempt hit the post.

BUL FC retained a threat of their own and Ssemujju married impressive pace and good reading of the game at the opening of the second stanza to win a free kick near the eighteen yards’ box.

Mukongotya stepped up and fired in a life threatening thunderbolt past the hapless Lukwago to give the edible oil manufacturers a comfortable lead and capped it with a Drogba-esc celebration on the wet ground that invoked massive cheers from the team faithfuls.

BUL came close again in the 70th minute but Martin Aprem, who had replaced Musa Esenu earlier on in the second half, failed to sail past the opponent’s goal keeper.

KCCA FC were given a penalty when the day’s center referee George Olemu judged Walter Ochora to have handled the ball in the forbidden area but Kimera excellently channeled Brian Aheebwa’s spot kick out into a corner kick.

At this point, the game was end to end with the visitors committing many bodies upfront and finally got a consolation through Charles Lwanga with two minutes left on the clock.

BUL FC takes on Police FC in the next outing away from home.

BUL FC Starting Line Up Against KCCA

Abdul Kimera (GK), Jimmy Kulaba, Walter Ochora, Dudu Ramadan, Godfrey Akol, Aggrey Madoi (Richard Wandyaka 74′), Robert Mukongotya, Ibrahim Mugulusi, Musa Esenu (Martin Aprem 53′), Joseph Ssemujju, Fredrick Kigozi (Fredson Gwoto)

Substitutes

Fredson Gwoto, Deogracious Ojok, Musa Walangalira, Richard Wandyaka, Martin Aprem, Douglas Bithum, Paul Mutebi.

This fixture usually produces fireworks and you can expect no different on this Friday when the Eastern Giants host the 13 league champions, KCCA FC, at Kyabazinga Stadium – Bugembe in JinJa City for what is always an eagerly-awaited occasion.

Setting the scene:

BUL FC are in 12th position with 4 points from 5 league games. KCCA FC, meanwhile, will be glad to return to domestic action after suffering a painful ejection from CAF Confederations Cup at the hands of AS Kigali of Rwanda and sit in 5th place on the table with 9 points gathered in the league.

How are we shaping up?

Since suffering consecutive defeats in our last two away games before the season went into recess, the team has gone on to comprehensively win three practice matches and drawing one, scoring a whopping seventeen goals and conceding only five.

The boss – Arthur Kyesimira, who will be in charge of his first game this season will now look to ensure his charges improve our home form which has yielded only one point from two home league games so far. In the opening 5 league games, coach Arthur Kyesimira was serving a national call at the Uganda Cubs (U17 Uganda National Football Team) in Rwanda where they emerged champions.

Team news.

Deogracious Ojok returned to full fitness and the coach has almost full squad at his disposal apart from right back Peter Ozima who is nursing groin injury and Vitalis Tabu with swollen toe

“The team is in good shape. We don’t have any new injury in our squad. We have prepared very well – mentally and physically and ready to shoot down KCCA FC again and also subsequently crush any opponent that shall come in our way in the league,” said Assistant Coach Daniel Mubiru.

How about our home record against KCCA FC?

BUL FC has won two games out of the eight games since 2011. We have drawn three and lost three, scoring eight and conceding a similar number of goals in the process

We won our last game against them 3-0 and the team will be looking forward to winning back to back home games against the yellow boys for the first time.

BUL FC goal hunter, Deogracious Ojok has now fully recovered from the knee injury that laid him off from competitive football for more than a half season.

The lofty forward has already made two cameos this season in the league against URA FC and Kyetume.

Ojok said he has got his much fitness back and he is very much ready to offer all he can to burst nets and help BUL FC win honours.

“I have worked hard to return to full fitness and I am going to work so much harder to break into the first team again. My target is to score more than ten goals in the remaining 25 games.”

The challenge before him now is that he has to dislodge the trio of Musa Esenu, Anwar Ntege and Paul Mbazira who have established themselves as the formidable forwards under the current head coach Arthur Kyesimira.

Before the injury, Ojok had already netted six goals in 2019/2020 season and was the principal striker under former head coach, Peter Onen. His splendid performance and goal scoring prowess earned him a nomination for the best Uganda Premier League player of the season though he missed on the final short list for the award.

BUL FC is in comprehensive preparations for league recommencement and has scheduled to play another friendly game against Jinja City neighbors and Big League newbies – Gadaffi FC on Saturday January 30, 2021 at Kyabazinga stadium in Bugembe at 4pm.

The Eastern giants, who have bagged four (4) points from five games sit in 12th position on the UPL table and will play KCCA FC when the league resumes in February.

Head coach Arthur Kyesimira has confirmed that Fredson Gwoto is BUL FC’s new captain.

The 26year-old has been at the club since he joined from Admin FC in 2019, the coach said he will now lead the team out with immediate effect.

“Gwoto will be wearing the captain’s armband with effect from today. We thank the outgoing leadership of captain Dennis Okot Oola and Jimmy Kulaba for taking the club to where it is now but we felt the group needed a fresh breath in life.” Assistant coach Dan Mubiru stated after the evening training session.

Equally, Gwoto was quick to appreciate the trust coaches have put in him.

I know this hasn’t come by mistake but rather working hard and doing what coaches expect out of me. Being disciplined, respectful and God-fearing are the other aspects of my strength.”  Gwoto revealed.

Fredson will be deputised by Walter Ochora, Jimmy Kulaba and Tibita Hamisi as 2nd, 3rd and 4th team captains respectively.

This is not the first team Gwoto is captaining, but he is also the current skipper of Bukeddi Province team and he was Admin FC’s team captain before joining BUL FC.
