MATCH REPORT: BUSOGA UNITED 0-3 BUL FC

BUL football club beat Busoga United 3-0 to progress to the round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

BUL FC players celebrating Karim Ndugwa’s goal.

Karim Ndugwa’s halftime brace and a Walter Ochora strike on the stroke of full-time handed BUL FC the win at Kakindu stadium on Friday.

Busoga United came close to getting a shock lead on ten minutes when Edrin Opaala picked up a pass near the box but his efforts whistled far away from the right post.

Alex Isabirye’s side became more ambitious, creating several chances in front of goal but Ibrahim Mugulusi was denied twice, first by Micheal Nantamu in United’s goal before his free kick on 21 minutes was deflected for a corner.

At the other end, Busoga continued to battle as well as they looked for a goal against the Eastern Giants.

Richard Wandyaka in action

Shaka Sozzi made an attempt with a long range right footed shot before Saidi Keni denied Opaala on 34 minutes.

The Eastern Giants started to dominate possession from there on as they increased their onslaughts and were rewarded with a breakthrough in the 23rd minute thanks to Ndugwa’s brilliant flicked header off Richard Ayiko’s free kick near the box.

They stretched their lead thirteen minutes later after referee Richard Kimbowa awarded them a penalty following a handball in the area.

Ndugwa stepped up and sent Nantamu the wrong way from the spot to score his third goal for BUL in four games since joining us in January.

After the recess, Pascal Ngobi was shown the yellow card for a shove on Opaala.

Saidi Keni closed down Paul Sekulima after the winger had escaped and all clear on goal on the 58th minutes before the defence marshaled by Douglas Muganga cleared far for safety.

But the Eastern Giants remained desperate and continued their search for more goals.

Ndugwa had another header from inside the box following a teasing delivery from Umar Mukobe on the right flank but it flew wide four minutes after the hour.

Pascal Ngobi then latched onto the ball from the middle of the park but his hard shot could not find the target.

The final defining moment came in the three additional minutes after the regular 90 minutes.

Walter Ochora’s header clipped on the bar before the ball rolled in his way and the defender made no mistake to drive it past Nantamu to seal the win.

BUL FC’s next task will be against UPDF FC next week in the league at Kyabazinga stadium.
